Synopsis:
There is a small restaurant “Meshiya” in an alley of a busy street that is run by its owner (Kobayashi Kaoru). Called the “midnight restaurant”, its hours of operation are from midnight to 7 in the morning. The only items on the menu are miso soup 1 with pork and vegetables, beer, sake and shochu 2 . All kinds of customers visit the restaurant, which is based on the owner’s policy of “doing what can be done.” The encounters between the owner, the food and the customers are hilarious and sometimes heartbreaking.
